Jake Turel
Jake was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia shortly after his 4th birthday in April of 2021. He spent the vast majority of April through October admitted to Mott undergoing chemotheraphy and he had a bone marrow transplant in September of 2021. Jake relapsed in May of 2022 and spent the majority of May of 2022 through October of 2022 admitted where he received more intense chemo, along with 8 rounds of full body radiation. He received a second bone marrow transplant in September of 2022. In total, he spent well over 200+ nights in the hospital. Jack had every terrible side effect from chemotheraphy and was very sick for a very long time. He did not have an immune system so he spent two years unable to see anyone besides immediate family.
It has been over two and a half years since Jake’s second bone marrow transplant and he is thriving! He continues to be in remission and is in first grade at Lakes Elementary in Hartland. He had some minior health issues related to his transplant but other than that, he has mostly returned to his normal state of health. Jake goes every 12 weeks now for blood draws/visits with his transplant physician. Jake loves going on vacation, spending time with family and his animals and playing/ watching soccer. Jake is the sweetest boy who is so brave, and we are so thankful for him every day!
